This week is National Apprenticeship Week.
We like to thank apprentices for all their hard work and dedication to improving their skills.
We spoke to two of our apprentices to talk about there experience at Bond Brickwork and with their apprenticeship in general.
Josh:
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I wanted to learn on the job and earn my own money
Tell us about your role, what does a typical day look like?
I do a bit of everything, which is brilliant for experiencing and learning all aspects of brickwork and building in general. Walling experience, loading out, pre plasters, what ever I’m asked to do.
What’s the best thing about your apprenticeship
Learning on the job especially laying.
What would you say to others thinking about a technical apprenticeship?
Do it, it’s much better than the classroom.
Do you feel that you have developed while working for Bond Brickwork?
Yes especially developing my confidence.
Our MD’s words for josh:
When Josh arrived at Bond it was a struggle to find that right Gangs for him to settle with, Josh has worked and learned all aspects of house building from foundations to a full house build and where remedial works are needed too. Now seeing Josh after his 3 years in the game he’s come on loads, and working these last 5 months with Paul turner his workmanship and his confidence has come on massively. Keep going josh.
Leighton:
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
To learn and get experience on sites.
Tell us about your role, what does a typical day look like?
To learn as much as i can each day and gain my more skills.
What’s the best thing about your apprenticeship
Being able to learn and set myself up for the future.
What would you say to others thinking about a technical apprenticeship?
Definitely do it!
Do you feel that you have developed while working for Bond Brickwork?
Yes, as a bricklayer and outside work too.
Our MD’s words for Leighton:
Leighton into his second year as an apprentice with us and is showing the right attitude to succeed. The gang that are mentoring Leighton are some of the most capable lads we have within Bond, and I’m sure in Leighton we have a great bricklayer in the making.
